The following instructions apply to beef as well as chicken.

Ingredients/equipment:

  • 3lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Sharp filet knife
  • Dehydrator

Instructions:

  • Wash chicken and remove fat. Pat dry.
  • Place chicken on cutting board and place in freezer for up to an hour.
  • Turn on dehydrator set to 160 degrees
  • Remove softly frozen chicken.
  • Slice from top to bottom, with about 3/8 or ¼ inch thickness
  • Place chicken on food dehydrator racks
  • Set timer for three hours
  • Remove once buzzer goes off
  • Ensure the chicken is all the way cooked by inspecting the meat to see if it is orange throughout

How to Make Sweet Potato Dog Treats in a Dehydrator

Ingredients/equipment:

  • Sweet Potatoes (4-6 full potatoes)
  • Dehydrator
  • Knife

Instructions:

  • Thoroughly wash and remove the skin from your potatoes
  • Slice them into ¼ inch slices, cutting directly down the middle
  • Dehydrate at around 144-155 degrees
  • Set timer for 2 hours
  • Dry for up to 8 hours, until they are dry and can bend but not break

Making Gluten Free Dog Treats at Home

Fortunately, both sweet potatoes and chicken are gluten free, but for another option consider the following receipe that can be made at home in your oven.

Pumpkin treat ingredients:

  • 2 cups rice flour
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ cup natural peanut butter
  • Desired cookie cutter shape (dog biscuit ideal)

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix ingredients together thoroughly
  • Spread dough ¼ inch thick and use dog biscuit cookie cutter
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes
  • Let cool
  • Store in the refrigerator
